Patient Privacy: PIPEDA/PHIPA Requirements for Clinics

PIPEDA (Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act) is federal legislation to protect personal privacy.

PIPEDA is being replaced by provincial legislation which is ‘substantially similar’, and is known as the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA) Act (Bill 31). Bill 31 was introduced by the Ontario government on December 17, 2003, and will come into force on November 1, 2004.

Below are documents prepared as a service of the Ontario Association of Radiologists for IHFs. They can be used to ensure clinic compliance with PHIPA.
